TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES
Community Update:
Safe Sleep Training Program
Due to recent changes in program funding, JuneteenthKC’s Safe Sleep Training program has been temporarily paused. At this time, we are unable to provide safe sleep training opportunities directly.
We recognize how vital this program is to the health and well-being of our community. Safe sleep education is especially critical in urban neighborhoods and communities of color, where infant mortality rates remain disproportionately high due to unsafe sleep practices and environments.
JuneteenthKC is actively seeking new community partners and funding agencies to help us relaunch this program and ensure that parents and caregivers in underserved communities have access to life-saving education and safe sleep resources.
We are grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with Children’s Mercy Hospital and Home State Health, who remain committed to addressing this urgent need.
In the meantime, we encourage families in need of immediate support to connect with our community partner:
Charlie’s House
www.CharliesHouse.org
📍 2425 Campbell St., Kansas City, MO 64108
📞 816-591-1766
📧 info@charlieshouse.org
Charlie’s House provides on-site home safety resources and cribs for families in need, ensuring that parents and guardians have access to tools that reduce the risk of preventable injuries and unsafe sleep environments.
JuneteenthKC remains committed to bringing back this program and will provide updates as new opportunities for training become available.
Safe Sleep Training Program Update
Unfortunately, due to recent changes in funding, JuneteenthKC’s Safe Sleep Training program has been paused. While we are unable to directly provide safe sleep training at this time, our organization remains fully committed to this effort and is actively seeking community partners and funding support to ensure families continue to receive these life-saving resources.
JuneteenthKC, in partnership with Children’s Mercy–Kansas City’s Division of Child Adversity and Resilience (DCAR), is proud to support their safe infant sleep initiative “Safe Sleep Safe Babies” across the Greater Kansas City area and neighboring communities.
JuneteenthKC is honored to join Children’s Mercy in their efforts to:
-
Prevent sleep-related infant deaths.
-
Expand knowledge and practice of safe infant sleep.
-
Increase family access to safe sleep education and materials throughout Jackson, Platte, Clay, Cass, Wyandotte, and Johnson counties.
JuneteenthKC will continue to contribute to this vital effort by:
-
Designating staff trained in safe infant sleep practices.
-
Disseminating safe sleep education to families served.
-
Demonstrating safe sleep materials (including pack ‘n plays) and their proper use within the household.
Although our direct program delivery is on pause, JuneteenthKC is committed to securing the resources needed to relaunch and expand this work. This public health initiative aligns with our organizational mission to ensure families and children in underserved communities have equal access to the safety and well-being resources they need to thrive.
