Umoja is a community holiday celebration and gift distribution event that aims to promote unity in addition to spreading holiday cheer within the urban core in partnership with Missouri Care, Home State Health, and community partners from throughout the Greater Kansas City area! Umoja is a FREE community event and a collaborative effort to provide resources and promote healthy holiday engagement events that celebrate the themes of Kwanzaa and traditional American holiday customs within the urban core. Umoja ,hosted annually at the American Jazz Museum GEM theater, will feature FREE Toy & book distributions throughout the day, a holiday vendor mart that highlights KC's best local artisans, FREE holiday pictures, and more!!

The Umoja Holiday Adoption Program, proudly hosted by JuneteenthKC, is a heartfelt initiative aimed at bringing joy and support to families in need across the greater Kansas City area during the holiday season.
In the spirit of JuneteenthKC's commitment to community empowerment, this program extends a helping hand to families facing financial challenges by providing holiday gifts and essential household resources.

Families applying for services through the Umoja Holiday Adoption Program can anticipate a meaningful holiday experience for their loved ones, with the assurance of receiving not just gifts, but also valuable support to make the season brighter. The program recognizes the profound impact that a special toy on Christmas Day can have on a child, and the relief it brings to parents facing financial limitations.

Despite the challenges posed by COVID-19, JuneteenthKC has adapted its distribution plan to ensure a safe and limited-contact mobile distribution event. This modification is a testament to the organization's commitment to the well-being of the community. It's important to note that the need within the community is greater than ever, especially as low-income families persevere through these challenging times.

JuneteenthKC is excited to continue offer this rare opportunity for direct community connection and engagement. By participating in the Umoja Holiday Adoption Program, individuals and families have the chance to make a positive impact, fostering unity and support during a season that is all about coming together and spreading joy!

Adoption Request Requirements:

**Children listed MUST live with the person filling out the adoption request
**Parent/Guardian must provide proof of guardianship upon receiving gifts
---Acceptable Proof of Guardianship Documents: Current Grade Card, Birth Certificate OR Social Security Card
**Gifts must be picked up December 17th from 5:00-7:00 pm within the 18th & Vine Historic Jazz District.
--1616 E. 18th Street Kansas City, MO-- All applicants will be emailed their assigned pick up time by December 10th.
PLEASE NOTE-- Your gift selections are suggestions that allow us to customize your Holiday Gift Donation based on donations received. There is NO guarantee that items selected will be provided, however, we will try our best to fulfill all requests received.
PLEASE NOTE-- Completing this form does not guarantee your family will be served. ALL families that can be served will be notified by December 10th with an assigned pick up time. FAMILIES MUST CONFIRM BY RESPONDING TO THEIR ASSIGNMENT EMAIL WITHIN 24 HOURS OR THEIR SPOT WILL BE FORFEITED TO ANOTHER FAMILY IN NEED. FAILURE TO DISCLOSE THAT YOUR FAMILY HAS BEEN ADOPTED BY ANOTHER AGENCY FOR THE HOLIDAYS WILL RESULT IN AUTOMATIC FORFEITURE OF YOUR FAMILIES ADOPTION AND REASSIGNMENT TO A FAMILY IN NEED!!

The Umoja Holiday Celebration aims to showcase Kansas City's best local retail vendors
in our Holiday Retail Mart--and encourages patronage from our event attendees
by offering FREE GIFTS with vendor purchases!!
(You read that correctly!!) Event guests will receive complimentary bonus gifts
provided by JUNETEENTHKC to support your vendor booth sales/booth engagement!!
This is a prime opportunity for businesses within our community to showcase their products
to shoppers gearing up for the holiday season.
